Research DIRECTOR

Claret Vargas is an expert in business and human rights and the Inter-American Human Rights System. Before coming to MSI Integrity, she was Director of Internationalization and led business and human rights work at Dejusticia, a Colombia-based human rights NGO. She also served as executive director at Stanford Law School’s Human Rights Center, where she focused on the Inter-American Human Rights System. She has experience in Alien Tort Statute litigation and in class action litigation on behalf of workers. Her research and advocacy include climate change and displacement, the Inter-American System, the palm oil and coal industries, and the design of effective mechanisms for the implementation of business and human rights standards. Claret holds a B.A. in Social Studies, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from Harvard University. She also holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
